Leadership Development Expeditions

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School

Leadership Development Expeditions (LDE) at the Carey Business School provide a 2-credit leadership-intensive course for all Carey degree students, open-enrollment executive courses for practicing leaders and Hopkins alumni, and customized leadership development programs for teams and organizations.

LDE utilizes the unique opportunity for leadership development embedded in outdoor experiential education, providing participants the challenge of serving as a leader during an adventure expedition, and helping individuals reflect on this challenge to develop their own conceptualization and practice of leadership. You can read more about our approach in a recent Harvard Business Review article about the benefits of outdoor leadership development.

The program combines a thorough academic introduction to leadership development and opportunity for self-assessment with repeated reflection and feedback to help individuals develop their own path as leaders. The hands-on approach to leadership development, coupled with extensive feedback and coaching, allows individuals to focus intensively on their growth as a leader.
